In a livestream in our YouTube channel, we tested the brand-new Chat GPT 4.5 model to see how well it could handle game development tasks.

Using Rosebud AI, we experimented by prompting GPT-4.5 to vibe code a basic Minecraft-style environment, a GTA-inspired city scene, and a Connect Four game.

While GPT-4.5 showed some capability, the results revealed that it's still somewhat limited in its ability to generate game code—especially compared to other models like GPT-o1 or Claude 3.7.

However, Rosebud AI proved particularly effective in refining these basic concepts into functional games, showing its strength for beginner game creators who prefer a no-code approach.

Testing GPT-4.5 for Game Development

We started by testing GPT-4.5 with simple game-making tasks.

We attempted to create a Minecraft-inspired project and GPT-4.5 managed to generate a basic environment, but it required heavy prompting to include even fundamental elements.

Similarly, when we tried making a simple cityscape inspired by GTA, the results were initially puzzling, producing unexpected visuals.

GPT-4.5 often produced minimalistic outputs or incomplete functionality, needing continuous fixes and debugging.

How the Games Were Created

To build these games, we began by remixing the app template from Rosebud's platform, copying the template’s starter code, and then using it as the base for GPT-4.5 prompts.

We found it crucial to explicitly instruct GPT-4.5 to maintain existing functionality or return the full code due to its tendency to deliver minimal and fragmented code snippets.

This multifile approach complicated the process, as Rosebud's beginner-friendly setup generally relies on single-file projects.

When the GPT-generated code didn't work, Rosebud AI stepped in.

Rosie, Rosebud's built-in AI assistant, fixed errors efficiently, showcasing Rosebud's strength as a platform that complements less-experienced creators by smoothing out technical hurdles.

GPT-4.5 vs. Rosebud's AI Game Maker

GPT-4.5 struggled significantly compared to specialized game development AI.

In contrast, Rosebud AI provided a more intuitive, stable, and visually appealing outcome, especially when making straightforward vibe games that require minimal coding expertise.

When Rosebud generated its own version of a Connect Four game, the result was visually appealing, fully functional, and easy to iterate upon.

Rosebud AI's user-friendly environment and powerful debugging features clearly stood out, especially when compared to GPT-4.5's performance during this session.

Final Thoughts

While GPT-4.5 demonstrates exciting potential in natural language tasks, its coding performance for game creation isn't quite up to par yet—at least based on this test.

Beginners and those without coding skills will likely continue to find Rosebud AI a more effective and enjoyable tool for turning their ideas into playable games quickly.
